This Fourth of July means more to me than it ever has before. Two years ago I marched with a multi-denominational cross-section of people who believe in the Right to Life and religious freedom in Wilmington, Delaware as part of the first Fortnight for Freedom in the fight against the Obamacare HSS Mandate forcing business owners to go against their faith and religious beliefs and provide abortion inducing drugs and contraceptives or face astronomical and crippling fines. I feel happy to say I was part of a movement that scored a major victory as witnessed in Monday’s Supreme Court decision in the Hobby Lobby case which upheld the arts and crafts store chain owners’ right to choose to uphold their religious beliefs. In a 5-4 decision, the court ruled that firms like Hobby Lobby are protected by the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 which states that an individual’s religious expression shouldn’t be “substantially burdened” by a law unless there is a “compelling government interest.” Moreover, I am proud to live in a country where the people have a voice, where justice reigns and where you really can make a difference. But we have to stay vigilant, as another Fortnight for Freedom is underway. God Bless religious liberty…and God Bless America!
