My husband recently asked me that question on a day when I was anything but. I was tired, grouchy, overwhelmed. But his asking forced me to reflect on why I wasn’t happy. This hectic holiday season upon us almost always gets me down because I think I should be more “in the spirit.” But sometimes the harder we try, the more elusive happiness seems. And so, as many wise men (and women) have suggested, I need to stay in the present and keep my eyes open to God’s gifts and be grateful for all I have here and now – and only then might I experience true happiness. Kids are often a good teacher of this  – even mine, who are in their teens and twenties! Writing this I already feel more in the Christmas spirit. Wishing you joy!
